Professor Neil Hyatt, Head of Department of Materials Science & Engineering will be doing the opening remarks after the Minister of State Andrea Leadsom, Minister of State for Energy and Climate Change at the Parliamentary breakfast on Wednesday 28 October. Speaking alongsider them will be Jamie Reed, MP for Copeland.
The meeting will focus on the three potential options for plutonium reuse, which will help manage the UK’s 140 tonne plutonium stockpile. The discussion will cover key points, including the work the Government and Nuclear Decommissioning Authroity has undertaken so far; the current issues and challenges around reuse and the wider benefits this option could provide to the UK.
Professor Neil Hyatt is also Member of the Royal Academy of Engineering and NDA Chair in Radioactive Waste Management and Director, of the Immobilisation Science Laboratory & MIDAS Facility.
