The Yorkshire constituency of the Society of Spanish Researchers in the UK (SRUK/CERU) is pleased to invite you to their 2nd Christmas Seminar entitled “Energy, Environment, Economy: the key challenges of our future generation”.
We have the honour of hosting two energy experts with different backgrounds:
- Prof. Pedro Gomez-Romero (solar and electrochemical energy storage) who works at the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, (CSIC-ICN) in Spain. His talk will be focused on the overwhelming challenge of our energy model with historical perspective, the links between energy, environment and economy and the many lines of action that can be taken to tackle this challenge.
- Prof. Peter Hall (policy and electrochemical energy storage) works in the Chemical and Biological Engineering Department at the University of Sheffield. He will guide us through the key points of the Volkswagen crisis and will offer a solution to the problem, which would however entail a major redesign of diesel engines, and of course, will bring additional costs.
To conclude the event, there will be a roundtable where we will debate the use of energy alternatives to fossil fuels (i.e. solar, biofuels, and other gas extraction methods such as fracking) and the economic and environmental costs of that hotly pursued sustainability.
